Sauna suits are controversial in fitness circles as a general fat-burning tool. Still, we are not in the general fitness business. We are fighters, and weight cutting is still a necessary part of the game, whether you like it or not. And the sauna suit is a tool that has proved its efficiency in helping to lose those last few pounds in time for the scale.
This review will look at the BOXRAW Hagler Sauna Suit 2.0. BOXRAW is a boxing apparel and equipment company with a big vision. They aim to help boxers at all levels—from fitness enthusiasts to world champions that all share the same thing—the love of boxing.
Now, let’s see how good is their sauna suit.
BOXRAW Hagler Sauna Suit 2.0 Review
As I said in the beginning, the BOXRAW sauna suit is a tool aimed at boxers as a professional weight-cutting tool. It’s engineered with the help of world-class boxers and properly named after one of the greatest to ever do it, Marvelous Marvin Hagler.
BOXRAW uses light but very durable 100% polyester material that maximizes training benefits and ensures optimal heat retention, which is the primary function of a sauna suit. It increases body temperature and blood circulation, accelerating profuse sweating.
Here are the main features of the Hagler Sauna Suit 2.0:
My Personal Experience
BOXRAW has been kind enough to send this sauna suit for a review, but this is not a paid promotion, just my personal experience with the item.
I want to start by saying that the overall presentation as a product is stellar, and the whole thing feels premium, from the packaging to the suit itself.
The suit is packed nicely in a sealed bag, and the first thing you see after opening it is a lovely big card with a short motivational piece on the back. This is not necessary, but it's a nice touch, in my opinion.
The impressive attention to detail catered to boxing fans continues when you open a small black pouch with a few stylish cards inside.
On top of the cards with care instructions, you get a couple more with some quotes from "Marvelous" Marvin Hagler, his picture, and a short text explaining his bio, stats, and why he was a great champion in and out of the ring. I'm impressed even before I see the suit itself.
You can tell the people at BOXRAW know their intended customers and refine the small details precisely to cater to people who love boxing. It shows they love the sport; this is not just your average corporate marketing.
Training With The BOXRAW Sauna Suit
This is all well and good, but the small touches would be all for nothing if the product didn’t work. After using it, I can honestly say that the Hagler sauna suit’s quality is definitely on par with its presentation.
I took it for an outdoor cardio session and did some running laps, a few shadowboxing rounds, and some jump rope. I wore the sauna suit without a t-shirt or shorts, only with underwear. Immediately after you put on the suit, you start to feel the heat.
I started completely dry, and I started sweating after the first lap. Shortly after, sweat was pouring and didn't stop even after I stopped training, but I remained with the suit. The heat retention truly is spectacular.
Here is what the inside of the suit looked like:
The outside temperature was high, but I am used to it. I can guarantee I was sweating much sooner and much more heavily than I would have otherwise.
Sizing-wise, I've seen many complaints online about the first version of the suit, but the problem seems to be resolved with the 2.0. The sizing chart involves taking measurements of your chest, waist, hips, and inner leg.
Based on these measures, I ordered a size L, and the suit fits perfectly. It's comfortable and does not restrict movement in any way. The material does not feel like you are training in a plastic trash bag, which is sometimes the case with lower-quality suits.
The rubber linings and wrist and ankle straps keep the suit securely in place. I shadowboxed with zeal, and I required no adjustments at any point.
Honestly, the only thing I found annoying was that the neckline was a little too tight and uncomfortable. Since my neck is average size and even a little thin, it will be even worse for a more robust neck and traps.
The Hagler sauna suit 2.0 retails for $99 on the BOXRAW site (but you can get a 10% discount for your first order). The first version of the suit is available on Amazon for 85$, but the extra 15$ is worth the upgrade to the second version. The brand also ships worldwide, so availability isn't a problem.
Compared to the other competitors on Amazon, which are around $50-70, the Hagler is more expensive. The price is higher but is also reflective of the quality.
As I have pointed out a few times, BOXRAW targets boxers at all levels. Boxing is not a game, and you probably know that crappy equipment can be a deal breaker in training and even more so in preparation for a fight.
I have tried other sauna suits before, although not the ones that are on Amazon. But compared to what I have seen and tested, the BOXRAW suit is better in quality, performance, and presentation. If you have used a sauna suit before and plan on using it for weight cutting, I strongly suggest you approach the matter as a professional and go for better equipment.
